SPORTS-CULTURAL CARNIVAL 

The much-awaited Intra University Sports carnival was inaugurated on 22^nd April 2024 with great enthusiasm and fervor, as the esteemed Registrar Dr. Chetan Choudhary and Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW) Prof. Sanjay Ahirwal officiated the opening ceremony. Dean of all schools, faculty and staff members witnessed the official commencement of the sporting extravaganza, symbolizing the spirit of unity and sportsmanship.

DAY 1: 22nd APRIL 2024

On 22nd of April, the day began with sports event at the University ground buzzed with energy as athletes showcased their skills in various sports like Badminton, volleyball and gully cricket to track and field events. Spectators cheered and created an electrifying atmosphere of camaraderie and sportsmanship.

Badminton

The badminton courts were a focal point of intense competition at the intra-university sports carnival, with players displaying agility, precision, and strategy in every match. The fast-paced rallies and thrilling matches kept spectators on the edge of their seats, highlighting the excitement and passion for the sport.

Volleyball

Volleyball enthusiasts gathered around the courts, witnessing spirited matches filled with powerful serves, precise spikes, and impressive teamwork. 3 teams at the volleyball tournament at the intra-university sports carnival showcased athleticism, strategy, and sportsmanship, captivating the audience with each exhilarating point.

GULLY CRICKET

In the spirited atmosphere of gully cricket, makeshift pitches echoed with the sounds of bat hitting ball and enthusiastic cheers.  Players of all the six teams showcased their street-smart skills, turning every match into a thrilling spectacle of improvisation and camaraderie, capturing the essence of the intra-university sports carnival community spirit.

DAY 2: 23rd APRIL 2024

LIGHTING OF THE LAMP CEREMONY

Cultural day was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp ceremony by Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. Vijay Vir Singh, Registrar Dr. Chetan Choudhary, Dean Students’ Welfare Prof. Sanjay Ahirwal, Deans of all schools, faculty and staff members to imbibe positive energy in the audience and performers.

HOST

The Intra University sports cultural carnival is more than simply a competition; it is a celebration of human potential, a stage where aspirations can take flight and passion can meet opportunity, these were the encouraging words by Shivani Singh (SJMC) and Ayushi (SOMS) who welcomed everyone with great spirits. Program started with the Krishan Vandana dance performance by Aditi from School of visual arts. She mesmerised everyone with her performance. Then the Vice Chancellor addressed the students. 

VC’s ADDRESS

 Prof. Vijay Vir Singh gave an inspiring speech as he talked about how a university is a melting pot of diversity, where students from various backgrounds come together to pursue their dreams and passions.  He emphasised that Cultural carnival at ASU is a platform to celebrate this diversity and showcase the multitude of talents that make an institution so unique. Every talent that is showcased are the guiding stars, that will light an individual’s way to a future filled with possibilities.

OPENING EVENTS:

On 23^rd the event started with students showcasing their talent in fine arts in various categories like Rangoli, Mehandi, Comic Art & Poster Making/Painting. Participants were allotted 2 hours to complete the artwork.  

RANGOLI

The area around the art gallery came alive with the myriad of colours of Rangoli, the theme given to students was ‘ELECTION’. The participants demonstrated various methods for conservation of nature from industrial pollution and other harmful human activities. In one creation, the participant highlighted the importance of voting, and focused on reminding about our fundamental duty to cast vote.

MEHNDI

The theme of Mehndi competition was “Indian traditional designs”.  The participants embraced this theme with imagination. The participants represented diverse cultures in their art such as traditional Rajasthani designs, leaf motifs and floral patterns. The spirit of compassion was visible around the participants as they exchanged appreciative comments with each other. All the participants gave their best efforts in these competitions.

COMIC ART

The comic art section of the intra-university cultural carnival was a vibrant celebration of creativity, where talented artists brought characters to life with vivid colors and dynamic storytelling. From classic superheroes to whimsical cartoons, the exhibition showcased a diverse range of styles and themes, captivating attendees with its imaginative flair and visual storytelling prowess.  The available themes were: 1. Time travel 2. Space exploration; 3. Superhero Sidekick; 4. Silly Superpowers.

INSTA REEL The Insta Reel segment of the carnival was a whirlwind of creativity and entertainment, with students showcasing their talent through short, captivating videos. The theme was “Life in ASU:

Nature and happiness”.  From dance routines and lip-sync performances to comedy sketches and DIY tutorials, the Reels offered a snapshot of the vibrant and diverse talents within the college community, leaving viewers entertained and inspired.

CREATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY – The creative photography exhibit at the intra-university cultural carnival was a kaleidoscope of visual storytelling, where students captured moments that transcended reality and ignited imagination. The theme was Abstract, compassion and emotion. Through innovative techniques and unique perspectives, each photograph told a compelling narrative, reflecting the beauty, diversity, and essence of life on and off campus.

POSTER MAKING
The poster making event was mesmerising as the participants showcased their artistic skills and imagination with the help of different characters and comics. The theme was “Campus Life”.

SOLO SINGING

The sound of music enthrals one and all. A good musical performance makes their place in the hearts of the audience. The participants of the solo singing were able to achieve it through their brilliant efforts. In the solo singing, competition, sweet melodies echoed through the Amphitheater. Most students picked up songs from Hindi cinema, the popular genre that never fails to entertain the audience. Aryan Sharma, a student of Management Studies become an audience favourite after his interactive version of “Har ghadi badal rhi hai”. The best part of this section was the many students from first semester, from different schools also participated in this competition. Sakshi’s sweet and serene vocals were also cherished by the audience.

MIMICRY

The students demonstrated their potential and talent as impersonators with precision and humour. The participants included in this competition enacted the character of “Manilal” a beloved fictional character from the Indian comedy film “Aawara Pagal Deewana” On the other hand, another student enacted the legendry character of ‘Gabbar’ from the blockbuster movie of Hindi cinema “Sholay”. The crowd reacted with amusement, amazement and appreciation to the successful impersonation.

SOLO DANCE

The solo dancing competition started with a graceful performance by Aditi on a classical song. The participants were amazing and were very confident. The energy and fun elements in their dance were on another level. Some participants started their performances with Indian traditional and classical dances such as Odissi and kathak while some mixed Bollywood dance songs with traditional dance as well. Aryan’s performance on ‘Hum Hai Raahi Pyar Ke’ were received by smiles and claps.

GROUP DANCE

Dance is a medium that helps people to express themselves through body language and small gestures. A different dance style can portray a variety of emotions. The group dance competition was a culmination of Western and traditional dance forms. The participants in this competition were mainly- three groups- Rashmita Nayak and Himanshu (Group1), Rashmita Nayak, Jahanvi, Manya and Nikita (Group2) and Komal and Nidhi Kashyap (Group3. The three groups focused more on the energy and the crowd appeal. The crowd enjoyed their performances to their heart’s content.

Debate

The Debate competition brought to light the significance of debating as a platform for understanding two perspectives on a single topic. It was “one nation one election”, a contemporary issue of great relevance and immense depth to uncover. The participants included factual points like the India being a democratic country, the budgetary constraints as well as time challenges of elections.  Many issues like these were discussed with proper punctuation and clarity leading towards a good knowledge for the audience.

Elocution

To judge the skill of clarity of thought, articulation, expression and pronunciation, the debate competition was also withheld. The topic was given to students three hours prior to the competition. The central topics of this debate were ‘LGBTQ Rights in the Indian context’; Unveiling the Future: Evaluating India’s Potential for Permanent UNSC Membership; Regulation of Social Media: Challenges and Prospects.

SKIT 

This segment included Chandrajeet Dhara and team, the team demonstrated and played a roleplay of famous Indian serial “Bhabhiji ghar par hain”. The act was funny and grabbed full attention of the audience by their wonderful acting skills.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF RESULTS

The programme concluded with a VOTE OF THANKS, offered by Dean of Students’ Welfare, Prof. Sanjay Ahirwal. The prizes were distributed by Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. Vijay Vir Singh, Prof. Sanjay Ahirwal, Dr. Sonam Raheja & Dr. Mahesh Sharma.

The two-day sports and cultural carnival culminated in resounding success, leaving participants thrilled with joy and achievement. Students reveled in the festivities, celebrating the culmination of their hard work and dedication.
