Industrial Visit: Yakult Danone Factory, Sonipat

On April 1st, students from the School of Biosciences at Apeejay Stya University visited the Yakult Danone Factory in Sonipat, Haryana, for an insightful industrial tour. A total of 43 students from four batches across three programs, accompanied by faculty coordinator Dr. Saroj Kumar, participated in the visit.

The students were warmly welcomed by the factory team and introduced to the plant’s safety protocols before attending an informative session by Mr. Shagun. The presentation covered Yakult’s history, its global collaboration with Danone, the science behind probiotics, and the company’s product range and market reach.

During the guided tour, led by Mr. Shagun and Ms. Deepika Rajbhar, students observed the entire production process, including the Seed Room with 500-liter bioreactors cultivating Lactobacillus casei strain Shirota, the Culture Room housing twelve 6500-liter automated bioreactors, and the Quality Control laboratory. The tour concluded at the packaging line, where over a million Yakult bottles are produced daily with stringent quality and hygiene standards. The visit provided students with valuable exposure to industrial-scale probiotic production and quality assurance practices, enriching their academic learning with real-world applications.
