School of Behavioural Sciences (SOBS), was established in the year 2021 with a vision of Apeejay Education & Apeejay Stya University to generate excellent Human Resource for Academic and Industrial Research & Innovation in the field of Behavioural Sciences & Mental Healthcare.
SOBS aims to become a globally recognised institute in the field of behavioural sciences and mental health care with a vibrant and conducive environment, considering the role of mental health in each aspect of life.
It is focused on the holistic development of students so that they can develop positive coping strategies to overcome adversities and Life’s challenges.
SOBS has evolved a curriculum which emphasises the liberal arts and provides flexibility to choose desired courses for the holistic development of the students and helps to cultivate and disseminate knowledge that provides integrative skills for translational research to bridge the gap between academia and industry.
Additionally, inculcates leadership qualities in students to have a competitive edge with peers and serve the society.
SOBS offers interdisciplinary programmes which consists of three major disciplines, viz., Psychology, Anthropology and Sociology. All these three disciplines are concerned with human behavior and offer complementary views of humans (people) to understand and predict human behavior. Thus, behavioural science is the study of human behavior and their interaction with people around them. Behavioural science explores the cognitive processes especially decision-making and communication through systematic analysis of human behavior.
It deals with human actions and the term suggests more of an experimental approach. The School of Behavioural Sciences offers courses in Psychology, Social work and Sociology. These courses individually (majoring in any of these courses) give students an awareness of the complexities of the social environment including human behavior, current social issues, human development, learning, etc.


The School of Behavioural Sciences (SOBS) at ASU, focusses on teaching, training, research and development. The school has the vision and commitment to develop into an icon of quality training of international standards and endeavours to provide highly proficient and efficient manpower in the field of counselling psychology, industrial and organisational psychology and mental health area.
Our Masters’ programme in Applied Psychology offers three major specialisations, to cater to the manpower needs in the areas of health/mental health/schools, child & adolescent counselling/trauma and grief counselling and the needs for psychologist counsellors in industries as well as business organisations in India.
The students who pass out have good job opportunities, including self-employment with a license to practice. The unique special feature of the courses offered is the intensive training from the first day of admission till the end of the two years, culminating in an internship of two months in the concerned area of specialisation.
In all the programmes offered, research and practical laboratory work help students study human behaviour taking into consideration many factors including the cognitive, affective, motivational and psycho-physiological factors and their dynamic interplay.
We focus on action research, field experiments and longitudinal studies with rigorous research methods. The research also includes behavioural aspects, neuropsychology, cognitive psychology and psychometry, with the objective to identify and deal with the manifested problems, diagnosis, problem-solving and restoration to normal and productive life of the individuals. We work with researchers from different disciplines within ASU, as well as at the national and international levels.
Being part of the Liberal Arts Centre, we offer opportunities to students and colleagues to reflect and engage in critical thinking. Our students are participants in both academics and planning services for the community’s needs and demands.
