The academic year 2013-2014 has brought a lot of diversity on Apeejay Stya University (ASU) campus, one of them being the admission of a handful number of international students ranging from countries like Nigeria, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Congo, Angola, France and Nepal, among many others. Their presence brought great diversity into the campus, especially in terms of languages spoken, which include Spanish, Portuguese, French, Hausa, Yoruba, Bhutanese (Dzongkha), Nepali, Bengali and Arabic. This has helped in developing a multi-cultural, multi-lingual ambience in the university.
The journey to ASU, for each international student from their respective countries, has been a great experience. It has made them more responsible. Husseini, a student from Nigeria shared, “Even though I am here with my elder sister, leaving home and coming to ASU has finally brought out the responsible side of me which probably wouldn’t have happened if I was still back at home”.
The freedom and security that is given to the students at ASU has generated a great deal of self-confidence within the international students bringing them opportunities to be who they want to be and do what they want in their different fields of interest like sports, community service, technology, innovations, etc.
Indian life, food, culture and friends have become very own to the international students as they enjoy their academic and personal time in campus and outside with great fun and gaiety. Eddie, a student of Computer Science, from Angola opined, “I am interested to see the country and travel all through its length and breadth. I had visited Goa and experienced the striking carnival celebrations there.”
The celebratory lunch party in December 2013, organised by the university for all the international students, officially welcomed them into the Apeejay Stya family. For the international students, ASU simply rocks!
