Pushpita Dey, Final Year, BJMC

An online search brought me to ApeejayStya University in 2014. I had heard that good teachers can be your friends, philosophers and guides. It is at ASU that I met such teachers who not only taught you the basics of journalism – handling a camera, voice modulation, writing the perfect news report, creating the best video – but also helped prepare you for several careers. Learning is hands-on. I learnt to edit films, take photographs, interview people, organise an event, and make a presentation. My school encouraged me to participate in various competitions and national/international seminars. I travelled to Singapore and London. I now look forward to my six-month internship with the Zee Group.

“I come from the North-Eastern state of India, Manipur. But I must say that I felt at home throughout my stay at the Apeejay Stya University during my stay at the ASU. I was so pleased when they arranged my internship with All India Radio in my hometown Imphal at my request, as I wanted to spend time with my family during the summer holidays. For me, the most exciting moment was the time when I was able to interview India’s Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mr. Kiren Rijiju for ASU’s Radio Styavani. My parents are so proud of me.”

Soumadip Dey, Final Year, MJMC

The Masters programme in SJMC helped me gain confidence as a multimedia journalist. Now I can broadcast an event on new media and at the same time prepare a print report. The best part of the programme is the opportunities for field work. I shot one film on the widows of Vrindavan and directed another on the art of Urdu recitation. MJMC helped me explore and discover so much. Thanks to the training, I am confident about working with any media platform – TV, Radio, Print and Digital.

The year 2015 proved to be fantastic for me. First, SJMC chose me to jointly present and produce a radio documentary on the theme of Sexual Assault, along with the students of USA’s Nicholson School of Journalism and Mass Communication (UCF), Orlando. This was part of our Student Exchange Programme. As a reward for my work, I was sent on a month-long internship to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) office in New Delhi. The experience was fantastic. After graduating from ASU, I joined the Indian Express.I love my work.

Lucknow to Gurgaon on a learning curve, that’s my story in a nutshell. After completing my BJMC in the capital of UP, I was looking for an excellent MA programme in journalism and mass communication. Lucky to have found place in SJMC, ASU, where emphasis is on hands-on-job training. As Mr. Narendra Modi was going to win an absolute majority, I was covering his associate Amit Shah’s press conference in New Delhi while shadowing a senior correspondent of the Daily DNA. It was all arranged by my faculty in-charge.
