Gurgaon, April 9, 2015: Students and faculty members of the School of Biosciences (SBS), Apeejay Stya University (ASU) participated in a one-day workshop organised at the ASU campus with funding from the India Cold Chain Expo (a subsidiary company of the National Center for Cold Chain Development, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India). The workshop was inaugurated with the lighting the lamp. Professor Kamlesh Asotra, Professor of Biosciences and Dean of Research and Economic Development led the proceedings.

This workshop illuminated participants about entrepreneurial opportunities for long-term storage and ripening of fruits such as apples, bananas, papayas and oranges. Mr. Dipankar Sur elaborated on the in-trend fruit ripening and storage practices in India, so that these fruits can be made available for upto eight months after harvest. ICCE team also enlightened the audience about the financial assistance available for naive entrepreneurs from Government of India. Mr. Mahadevan B. Iyer won the quiz-based competition (Golden Banana Award) organised by the ICCE team. The workshop ended with few group photographs at the ASU campus. On April 10, 2015, ICCE also arranged a one-day visit to the fruit storage and ripening facility using Controlled Atmosphere (CA) in district Palwal, where the faculty and students learned about the technical aspects of the construction and working of the CA storage facilities in India.

Apeejay Stya University received a certificate of appreciation by ICCE for active participation in the programme. The certificate was received by Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Vice Chancellor, Apeejay Stya University. All student attendees also received certificates of participation from ICCE, reflecting the contribution of participants in community service.

Vineet Sharma and Subhash Diyundi were the programme coordinators, and other SBS faculty included Biswarup Basu and Shubhbrata Kar, who gave away the certificates of participation to the attendees. Mr. Thyagarajan and Mr. Hari Prasad from Corporate Resource Centre (CRC), Apeejay Stya University were the ASU coordinators for the workshop who made all the arrangements for the visitors and participants.
