Gurugram, April 24, 2017: The School of Biosciences, ASU, organised a symposium on Bio and Information Technology for Healthcare. The symposium introduced students to applications of frontline biological and information processing tools, creating awareness towards Bio-IT interface and its impact on Healthcare.
Dr Purniam Sharma, CEO, Biotechnology Consortium of India Ltd., Dr Sailesh Guchhait, Field Applications Scientist Manager, Thermo Fischer Northern Zone, Prof. Graham Ball, Director Bioinformatics, Cancer Research Institute, Nottingham Trent University, UK, and Prof. SK Jain, FAMS, Hamdard Institute Medical Sciences & Research, Jamia Hamdard University, Delhi were the esteemed speakers at the event.
Dr Purnima Sharma talked about the status of the Biotechnology Industry in India wherein she highlighted the Government’s initiative and career opportunities. Dr Guchhait brought out the industry perspective of this. He highlighted the Clinical Oncology solutions made by Thermo Fisher. He also talked about how industries are changing day by day. Prof. Graham Ball introduced the public repositories on Genomic Data. He gave a hands-on session on data retrieval and data analysis. Dr SK Jain highlighted the academic perspective of Biotechnology, what to teach and the basic skills students must possess. He also talked on Proteomics Biomarkers in Medicine.
All the sessions were chaired by the students of the School of Biosciences. Dr Aul Kathait was the organising secretary for the event.
