Dr. Vijay Vir Singh is an accomplished academician and researcher with an extensive experience of over 38 years. Prior to his current role as Vice-Chancellor, Apeejay Stya University, he held various positions at the University of Rajasthan in Jaipur. He was also president (Vice-Chancellor) of Vivekananda Global University, Jaipur.
He served as a Professor and Head of the Department of Economics, Dean of the Faculty of Social Science, and was a valued member of the Syndicate and Senate. Additionally, he held positions such as Director of the NITI Aayog Chair, Director of the UGC- Human Resource Development Centre, Director of Examination, and Director of the PG School of Social Sciences.
Dr. Singh has also contributed to the public sector, working as the Economic Advisor to the Rajasthan State Finance Commission. He has been a Senior Fellow at the International Institute of Population Science (IIPS) in Mumbai and conducted research at Sciences Po in Paris. Furthermore, he was appointed as the Chancellor’s (Governor’s) nominee for V.M. Open University in Kota. His research interests revolve around Public Policy and Higher Education, and he has received funding for his work from prestigious institutions such as OECD Paris, the World Bank, DFID UK, the British High Commission in India, NITI Aayog, the Ministry of HRD, the Planning Commission, IFCI, UGC, ICSSR, and the Government of Rajasthan.
Dr. Singh’s scholarly contributions include numerous articles, monographs, discussion papers, and policy briefs published in both national and international journals.
Dr. Singh’s expertise has been sought after, and he has served on various committees, including the regional-level consultation group on the Approach Paper to the Twelfth Five Year Plan of India. He was a member of the Working Group of the Rajasthan State Commission for Urbanization, a research jury member at Sciences Po in Paris, and served on committees of UGC, NAAC, and ICSSR, among others.
He also holds a position on the Executive Board of CUTS International and is a member of several academic committees at Central and State Universities.
