Gurgaon, Aug. 9, 2016: A three-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) was held at the ASU Campus on Aug. 6, 8 & 9, 2016. The programme commenced with the ceremony of lighting lamps before goddess Saraswati. In the opening address, Dr. S.K Salwan, Vice Chancellor, Apeejay Stya University, threw light on the rich legacy of the Apeejay Stya & Svran Group. Speaking on the importance of FDP, he opined that FDPs provide an excellent platform for sharing knowledge and experiences. Dr. Salwan also made a captivating PowerPoint presentation on the topic ‘Technology for the 10 billion: How technology will change the world by 2050’ which concluded with an interactive question-answer session. After a tea break, there was a session on ‘Liberal Art Workshop’ by Dr. Gurunathan.

In the post lunch session, Prof. (Dr.) J. Veeraraghvan, Director, Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, organised a very informative session on the topic ‘Challenges of Higher Education and Role of Teachers’. After an evening tea break, Dr. Asha Chandola Saklani, Dean, School of Biosciences, ASU, presented an interactive session on the ‘Academic System at ASU’. This was followed by a session on ‘Community Service’ by Mr. Thyagarajan, Head - Training & Corporate Resources, Corporate Resource Centre, Apeejay Stya University. In his short address, he explained the concept of Community Service at ASU. He also informed that NSS has been introduced at ASU for the students from this session.

The second day of the programme started with a thought provoking opening address by Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Salwan. In his address, Prof. Salwan remembered Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam as a great scientist, teacher, visionary and an exemplary human being. Prof. Salwan also discussed in detail Dr. Kalam’s vision of ‘Developed India’, among other things.

In the second session, an informative and interactive lecture was delivered by Prof. J.R. Sharma, CIO, City Innovates, on the topic ‘NAAC Accreditation for Apeejay Stya University’. Prof. Sharma explained in detail the procedure of NAAC accreditation with special reference to the role of faculty in preparing for this prestigious accreditation.

In the post lunch session, a very useful workshop on ‘How to use Moodle’ was organised by Mr. Deepak Bhalla, Assistant Manager, Online Learning Management, Apeejay Stya & Svran Group. After an evening tea break, Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Salwan shared his experiences on ‘How to write a research project’.

The third day of the Programme commenced with Ms. Mili Aggarwal, Faculty from the School of Journalism & Mass Communication, ASU, welcoming all and inviting the dignitaries for the lamp lighting ceremony. Miss Aggarwal then welcomed Prof. Ashok Ogra, Hon. Advisor, School of Journalism & Mass Communication, ASU, to give his lecture on ‘Communication Revolution’. Prof. Ogra started with few Vivekananda quotes as he proceeded talking about the three waves i.e. Agrarian Wave, Industrial Wave and the Computer Wave.

The second session on ‘Mentoring in Academics’ was conducted by Prof. AK Saklani, Hon. Advisor, School of Management Sciences, ASU, who shared that mentoring is an integral part of the Apeejay Stya University’s unique academic system.

The third session on ‘How to write a Research Project’ was taken by Prof. Sanjiv Mittal, Dean, FMS, GGSIP, New Delhi. The fourth session was taken by Dr. Rajinder Singh Dabas, Chief Organisation Transformation Officer, JB Maruti Ltd. Mr. Dabas said that faculty themselves need to be empowered in order to further empower students. The next session was on ‘Emotional Intelligence’ which was taken by Ms. Saloni Kaul (an Alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad), Power Executive Coach, Human Resource Specialist & Corporate Trainer, India Talent Services.

The Registrar of the University, Sh. M.S. Yadav also took sessions on regulatory framework, statutory requirements related with the UGC, State Government and ASU. Controller of Examination of the University, Sh. Vikram Barara also took sessions on the Evaluation and Examination System including Question Paper setting, moderation, etc.

The programme concluded with few suggestions by the faculty members including mind games, community service, team building exercises and skill development workshops to be a part of future FDPs.
