“A tree is known by the fruit it bears. The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences is well-known for producing the best brains in the pharma industry. Every year our students are doing well in various entrance exams such as GPAT and NIPER JEE. They’re our torchbearers.” - Dr. Anupama Diwan, Dean at School of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Three students of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPS), Apeejay Stya University have cracked the prestigious National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Joint Entrance Exam (NIPER JEE) 2021. The computer-based exam is held every year for admissions in postgraduate courses in M.Pharm, MTech (Pharm), MBA (Pharm) and PhD in pharmacy. Devangi Sharma secured All India Rank 108 while Bipasha Hati and Kapil Bhardwaj secured All India Rank 580 and 2000 respectively. The trio from the 2017-21 batch, shares tips and tricks to ace the entrance exam.

Look beyond exams to expand your knowledge: Devangi Sharma

I would first like to express my gratitude to the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The faculty guided me through thick and thin and simplified each and every concept. Nothing would have been possible without their constant guidance and support. I stayed in the Girls hostel located in the Apeejay Stya University campus and the environment was good. We had access to the library even after college hours. Apart from academics, I participated in various extracurricular activities. My advice to freshers is to look beyond exams to expand your knowledge. Make a habit of reading journals. When you are in the third and the fourth year, take your studies even more seriously because the subjects get complicated and tougher. Lastly, practicing the previous year’s question paper will give you speed and accuracy.

Future plans: I have secured admission in Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi for M.Pharm.

Focus primarily on core subjects: Bipasha Hati

To be eligible for NIPER-JEE, one has to first clear the Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT). Initially, the focus should be on clearing GPAT. One should not think too far ahead. The best way to clear GPAT is to focus primarily on core subjects such as Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy, Organic Chemistry and Medicinal chemistry. I started my GPAT preparation in third year, but got all my concepts cleared in the first and second year. Once you clear GPAT, don’t take your foot off the pedal. Continue studying with the same dedication for NIPER-JEE. Remember, hard work is the most important key to success. It’s also important to keep a tab on current affairs and work on your logical reasoning.

Future plans: I will either do MPharm or MBA (Pharmaceutical).

Clear understanding of basic concepts of every subject: Kapil Bhardwaj

To be able to do well in NIPER-JEE, students must first get a firm grasp of the fundamentals of every subject. Due to negative marking in NIPER-JEE, you must also be cautious that you mark only those answers whose answer you know surely. Candidates should prepare a personalised study plan according to their aptitude and revision should be done regularly for getting a better result. Lastly, don’t let the naysayers get you down. For example, I was told by some people who have zero knowledge of pharmacy that a degree in Bachelor of Pharmacy will take me nowhere. Don’t pay heed to such people.

Future plans: I am thinking of doing Masters from Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology and after that I will look for a job in a pharma company.
